Industry experts predict that as many as one in three new bicycles sold in Europe could come with an electric motor by 2023. Despite this, there is still a lot of hesitance from mechanics towards working on e-bikes.
Cytech has introduced the brand new Technical e-bike course to provide the skills and confidence needed to set up, repair and sell a broad spectrum of electric bicycles along with an understanding of the specific standards and legal aspects that apply to them.
What does the course include?
The four day e-bike course is available from ATG Training in the UK, covering electrical theory, current legislation, safe working practices when dealing with batteries and electrical units, removal and installation of components, diagnosis, testing and fault finding of the components and much more.
The course is recommended for those who are looking to stock and repair e-bikes. It is suitable for those who already hold a Cytech technical two qualification or as a guide, 3-4 years industry knowledge. Contact ATG Training on 01296 737 800 or email email@example.com to find out more or to book your place.
ATG was one of the participants in the TWIN final workshop last November. The TWIN-consortium is very pleased to see that new training possibilities are launched so quickly after the workshop. They wish the ATG training team and their future participants a very succesful and fruitful course.
The TWIN project, aimed at developing electric bike training for dealers and their mechanics has officially ended on 31st December 2015. However, the TWIN consortium has decided to continue the work. The objective of the project is to provide assistance to training institutes in the EU to start up new electric bike training or to improve existing training. The consortium is also preparing a European certification scheme for dealers and their mechanics who have followed the training.
The consortium organizes a webinar at which the results of the completed TWIN project will be presented and at which future plans and ambitions will be discussed. Also at this webinar, the TWIN 3D animation will be presented, which has been developed to facilitate the learning process.
This webinar is reserved for training institutes and/or organizations which are interested in starting up electric bike training or which already offer electric bike training.
The webinar will take place on Thursday 3 March at 3 p.m. CET. For participation, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with: – the name of your institute – your name and position – your email address and telephone number – whether your institute has plans to offer training or already effectively has training available
The TWIN Final Workshop, which took place on 18 and 19 November, at Innovam in the Netherlands was a major success. The consortium welcomed more than 20 participants, representing training institutes from 11 different member states.

Gent, 14 October 2015 – The TWIN project, aimed at developing electric bike training for dealers and their mechanics, officially finishes at the end of this year. The consortium is preparing the final workshop at which the results of the project will be presented.
On 18 and 19 November 2015, the final TWIN results will be presented to interested European training institutes through a lunch-to-lunch workshop at Innovam in Nieuwegein (NL). Furthermore, the consortium will unfold its plans to continue its activities beyond the project period. This will include further details on the establishment of a European TWIN Academy.
In the past two years, the TWIN partners have developed a 4 days’ electric bicycle course based on the competence profile that was developed earlier on in the project. This course is linked to an Internet assessment tool, which allows candidate-trainees to test their knowledge and competence prior to the course. The assessment provides them with further details on the gaps in their existing knowledge and competences, which may be filled through the training. The 4 days’ training is aimed at dealers and their mechanics.
At the workshop, the participants will be expected to try out and evaluate the Internet assessment tool and the training material in order to allow the TWIN consortium to introduce final improvements.
For capacity reasons, the final workshop will be reserved to trainers and representatives of training institutes. They qualify for a financial compensation of maximum € 500 for their participation. Any other participants may attend for free. Further practical details will be provided upon registration.
Trainers and training institute representatives are invited to register for the final workshop at the event-website: http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=xtetk7uab&oeidk=a07ebouqd357955f710
The ultimate objective of TWIN is to facilitate and speed up the development of electric bicycle training throughout Europe. Today, in many member states there is no training available yet. The TWIN partners hope that the ready-made, state-of-the-art TWIN material will incite training institutes to start electric bicycle training or to improve existing training.
Before the official end of the project, the consortium will organize a webinar, which will be aimed at informing all other interested parties such as OEM, suppliers and the press on the TWIN results and future plans. The exact date and content of this webinar will be communicated at very short notice.

The TWIN project was successfully presented at Eurobike.
TWIN was a co-exhibitor at the AVERE-LEVA booth. On Thursday 27 August, there was a special information meeting on TWIN at Eurobike. At the meeting, Annick Roetynck, assisted by Roel Postma (Innovam) and Thomas Jaeger (CELF) gave an update on the state of affairs for the project and provided further details on the final two days’ workshop in November.
